Libretto by Deborah Brevoort/Music by Patrick Soluri.
A terrorist, seeking revenge, lures a well-known television journalist to Amontillado’s, a wine bar in lower Manhattan, with an offer to embed her in his cell. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s Cask of the Amontillado, Embedded tells the story of an aging TV anchor who finds herself on the other side of the headlines. Commissioned by the American Lyric Theater as part of The Poe Project.

“Deborah Brevoort’s wickedly sharp and fiendishly funny libretto is as engaging as it is entertaining, smartly commenting on society’s obsession with appearance and fame.” –In Forum, Fargo ND
“Patrick Soluri and librettist Deborah Brevoort have achieved a particularly powerful collaboration of evocative drama and richly lyrical, neo-romantic music.” –Front Row (Dallas, Texas)
“This opera earned the most laughs. Brevoort’s libretto shows an acute ear for contemporary speech. She clearly understands the insults embedded in people’s attitudes toward women…it rings true, and it’s often powerful.” –Parterre Box (NYC)
“Imaginative and compelling. Operatically, hysterically grisly.” –-LA Times
“Vividly dramatized and entertaining” —Dallas Morning News
A cut-to-the-chase, knock-your-black-lace-stockings-off performance that packs a lingering and haunting punch. Bizarrely inspirational. –The Column (Dallas/Ft. Worth)
Embedded conjures Poe’s dark terrain. Soluri’s music was skillfully scored. —NY Times
“This is grand opera in miniature.” —Sequenza
“A break from the opera norm…enthralling…this opera nails it. Nails it dead.” —Arts Partnerships
